Rule The World

I have a friend who has spontaneously looked at me, on more then one random occasion, and said….

“If I looked like you, I’d rule the world.”

Can you imagine?!

My first reaction is absolute hysteria.  I burst out laughing every time, which instantly transforms into smirking, as in “I am now a family member of the McSmirkingtons, that live in the house on the corner of “Give Me A Break Avenue” and “Just Stop It Street” smirk, and then as fast that thought leaves, utter embarrassment sets in with a “whatthewhatisshetalking about?” to the  awkward uncomfortable emotion and final resting thought of…

“Hmm, then why am I not?!”

What she doesn’t seem to realize is when I’m with her, I actually feel like she DOES “Rule the world.”

From hanging out and meeting so many of her friends, to walking through the downtown streets and someone actually stopping traffic just to hug her in the middle of N. Front Street, risking both their lives, well to me, that absolutely shows she rules the world.

From her smile, that goes on forever, to the smiles she’s greeted with when she walks in the room, to the connections she makes with random people, to the hugs, and the familiar sentence I’ve heard her say again and again through the years, “You haven’t met so and so yet? Omgosh, you would love him” or “She will love you” or “They will love them” it goes on and on.  She sees people and connections so quickly, it’s as if she’s actually running at the frequency that makes the connections happen to begin with.

It’s amazing what we see in other people.

So, maybe when a girlfriend says something so beautiful and ridiculous to you as, “If I looked like you, I’d rule the world” you can actually look at her and say….

“Girl, you already do.”

Note: Thank you Amy Reagan, you always see the best in me.
